Scott Welsh is selected by the Western Bulldogs with their 4th pick in the 2007 pre-season draft. Welsh becomes the only player with AFL experience to be selected in the draft.

While avoiding the topic of behavioural issues at his former club, Welsh explained that his departure from the Crows was due primarily to a disagreement between him and the club on contract terms.

"The club offered me a one-year deal and I wanted a one-year deal plus incentives so that if I reached certain goals I was guaranteed a second year. The club wasn't prepared to do that so I moved on."

Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade regarded Welsh as possibly a more versatile player than he has shown so far in his career.

"He can play out of the square and he can play up the ground, as well, so I think his style will fit in well with Brad and other guys," Eade said.
