While avoiding the topic of behavioural issues at his former club, Welsh explained that his departure from the Crows was due primarily to a disagreement between him and the club on contract terms.
"The club offered me a one-year deal and I wanted a one-year deal plus incentives so that if I reached certain goals I was guaranteed a second year. The club wasn't prepared to do that so I moved on."
Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade regarded Welsh as possibly a more versatile player than he has shown so far in his career.
"He can play out of the square and he can play up the ground, as well, so I think his style will fit in well with Brad and other guys," Eade said.
