Well what were supposed to do? Ask the AFL to change the fixture so we don't play bottom 8 sides?

No, you are meant to play the bottom 8 sides. Just not crow about it like you have just won the flag when you do beat them. Check out the official Carlton page on Facebook. What a joke. It's like they have just discovered sliced bread.

Maybe they were excited about us playing 4 solid quarters of hard at it footy for 2 weeks in a row, something we struggled to do ever since the hawks game. Pretty suggestive that we can beat any team below us, and a few of the teams above us.

And you went on the Carlton fan page because? All teams have supporters that get carried away with wins, don't make it out as if it's just Carlton supporters that do.

Also, let's look at your last 7 weeks. Wins against Carlton, who according to you are crap, so by your standards that's a nothing win. A win against Richmond, that means nothing, then St Kilda which is impressive, but don't forget they got flogged by Essendon last week, who are nothing according to you. Before that it was a win against Port, West Coast, Sydney and Melbourne. That's 1 barely impressive win out of 7 games. wow....

You're right Nic, I never did rave on about any of those wins because they should have been expected. To be honest the only team I give a crap about beating is the best in the comp, Geelong, because thats what my footy club aims to be. Believe me, the draw we had against Melbourne never should have happened, luckily we drew with the better team on the day. I think it was a God send too, having that draw woke us up.

Great response mate, I too don't really give a crap that we beat Essendon, just that we played hard consistantly for 4 quarters, which is where we've been failing over the past few months. Geelong is the real test, as much as it pains me I'm tipping Collingwood. They just have so many players whose confidence would be sky high, and Geelong would be a bit nervous going into this match. Both sides are around the same skill levels imo.

I don't think Geelong are nervous. Too be honest I don't think any of their players really rate us after the last few times we played them, maybe thats a bit harsh, I should say their supporters don't rate us lol. Don't you think you guys should be demanding more from your team? With the list of players you have you shouldn't have had such a form slump.

I'll just add my two cents worth here Joel, and it is quite a good question you ask. Whilst we should demand more from our team, especially on the consistency side, (we shouldn't be getting flogged as regularly as we are), in the grand scheme of things, we are right where we should be on the ladder; 6th. My favourite stat in terms of ladder position is the average games played stat. For this week's round: Geelong: 152 games Collingwood: 111 St.Kilda: 122 Western Bulldogs: 126 Sydney:105 Hawthorn:100 Carlton: 71 None of the top 4 sides this year have a had dramatic form slumps, (possibly St.Kilda) and this is most likely due to their experience compared to our lack of experience. In saying that, our form slump was pretty bad, as we were hardly competitive. I think we are still on track to be a very successful side in the years to come, and if we win a final this year, which is very possible, it will be a great result for us.

It certainly puts things in perspective when you look at it that way. The Bulldogs is an interesting one, because I think this is their last serious shot at a flag for a while. And Geelong is no suprise at all, considering they have had basically the same group together for about 6 years which would be the main reason for their success. What is your thoughts on bringing in a true development coach, Ratten might be working for you but he isn't really a coach that can develop young players or get a group to gel properly together consistently. When Williams walked out of Port Adelaide I thought he would be a great pick up.

Yeah I'm of the same belief for the Bulldogs as well, I reckon Geelong, St.Kilda and Collingwood are far better sides than what the Dogs are this year as well. It's a good question you ask. I think Ratts has done quite a good job in terms of developing our younger players over the past few years, especially in terms of individual ability, but your right, we now need to get this playing group to gel together more consistently. Choco would be a great get if he became our development coach, as he is well renowned for his teaching and development skills.

Well said Nic. And we didn't just beat em, we gave them a hiding. And secondly, it was how we played, and it was ruthless and efficient. I think regardless of the end result of last night, we had to get back to playing a brand of footy which is capable of winning in the first week of finals, and last night we did.

Nobody even came on and talked up the win yet. I've had good footy talks with you Joel, it's pretty disappointing when your priority is to try to take something away from our win.

Oh well. In the grand scheme of thing last night's result, even if we won wouldn't of really meant anything. Considering that our goal should be to win the first week of finals, (which will be against either Freo, Sydney or Hawthorn) a win wouldn't of really proved anything. I thought we played quite well in patches last night, and showed enough to suggest that we can get past week 1 of the finals.

Yeah I know what your saying, and of course I'd prefer to have won, but it wouldn't of made a difference in terms of winning our first final. I found it quite an enjoyable game to be honest Ange, we stuck with yas first 2 and half quarters but the Catters were too good for us. Good luck for the rest of the year!

Look on the bright side bluesers - you could play a dvd of that game at next years Melbourne comedy festival and walk away with a Barry award! I loved every minute of it. Loved the guy in front of me calling Collingwood "pretenders" 5 minutes in and leaving at half time. Loved Waites disposal - comic genius. Especially loved his kick along the ground from the goal square to gift Beams a goal - they don't write em like that anymore. Loved Judd's 1 handball 2nd quarter - subtle humour there. Loved the near 60 minute period between carlton's 2nd and 3rd goal - timing's everything in comedy. Loved the feral 'supporters' hurling abuse at them as they left the ground at half time - black comedy at it's finest. Loved carlton's 5 marks inside 50 compared to Cloke's 8 - what a great sidekick they are. But of course I loved the serious stuff most of all. Dawes tap on near the boundary that lead to a goal. Goldsack's screamer. Jolly's pack mark. Daisy's screamer. Beams' snapped goal from the pack, and best of all, Didak's 60m torp straight through the heart of all you bluesers. THE most inept, gutless, feeble display of 'football' I've seen from a side in a long long time. You have 16 premierships though. Bahahahahahahaha.

That 60m goal he kicked against West Coast on the run last week wouldn't suggest he doesnt have any penetration in his kicking.

Oh Daniel! I'll make my point once again. Considering he gets around half of his possesions in the contested variety, (and 2/3 of those contested balls are hard ball gets as well, not loose ball gets where he has more time to dispose of the ball), as well as having a very low percentage of disposals taken from marks, (especially cheap marks in the back 50) of course his kicking efficiency is going to be low! What part of that don't you get! Yes, he ain't no Goddard or Lindsay Gilbee with the ball at his feet, but he isn't as bad a kick as everyone makes him out to be. How many times does he turn the ball over when he is under limited or no pressure? Very, very rarely.

Whilst Im not going to argue with anything you wrote regarding the game, because it was the 'most inept, gutless, feeble display of 'football' I've seen from a side in a long long time', why write something like 'You have 16 premierships though'? What, aren't allowed to boast and be proud that we have such a proud history, and have the equal most premierships in VFL/AFL history? I wish our current players (apart from Judd) played with as much passion for their jumper and club as what our past greats did.
