Swans officials have cleared midfielder Isaac Heeney of any wrongdoing after it emerged he was at a Sydney nightspot last weekend when North Melbourne's Taylor Garner allegedly assaulted a man.

Garner, who was staying in the Harbour City with Swans onballer and former Kangas teammate Ryan Clarke while North had their mid-season bye, is alleged to have broken a man's nose at a popular pub in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Swans officials said in a statement that while Heeney witnessed the alleged scuffle, Clarke had already left by the time it occurred.

Sydney footy boss Charlie Gardiner said Heeney stopped the incident from escalating further and lent his assistance to the other man involved.

"Both Isaac and Ryan kept the club fully informed about what occurred over the weekend," Gardiner said.

"Isaac should be commended for diffusing the situation and offering support to the other party."

Ryan Clarke says his goal for 2019 is to be a key component of Sydney's midfield.

"There's some superstars of the modern game in the Swans' midfield so I'm really looking forward to getting started (with them), and I'm going to try and soak up as much information as I can," Clarke said.

"I'm also looking forward to adding a few more strings to my bow, like consistency, getting a bit better on the inside, and adding some polish on the outside."

Ryan Clarke is the round 18 NAB AFL rising star nominee after playing a key role in his team's 40-point win against Collingwood on Friday night, gathering 27 disposals to go with three goal assists as North broke its run of five consecutive losses.

Clarke says the prospect of playing finals in his first season is a driving factor for him in 2016, as he seeks to cement his spot in the side.

"Every footballer wants to be part of finals football so if I was able to get that opportunity and we make the eight it would be a great experience," Clarke said.

"Finals footy is the benchmark so if I can play in that then hopefully that gives me a lot of confidence for the next couple of years."

Sunday, 10 July 2016

Ryan Clarke have been so encouraged by what they've seen from Clarke this pre-season they have rewarded him with a one-year contract extension.

Having signed a standard two-year deal upon being drafted, Clarke is now tied to Arden Street until the end of 2018.

"I'm really stoked," Clarke said.

"It just shows that the club has faith in me, so hopefully a few of the other first-years [can re-sign] as well. I think we're all travelling pretty well."

Tuesday, 24 November 2015
North Melbourne select Ryan Clarke with pick No.31 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

"Ryan is a really elite runner, who is an accumulator of the ball, winning it inside and out. He just wills himself to contests," North Melbourne recruiting manager Bryce Lewis said.
