Lachlan Plowman Biography

Wednesday, 27 September 2023
Lachie Plowman announces his retirement after 11 seasons and 145 games.

"I could not have asked for much more than to have been part of the AFL for such a significant period of my life," Plowman said.

"The club has been the best environment to come to work every day, the challenging moments, the winning ones, I would not change them for the world. Thank you to all my coaches, teammates and everyone at the Blues for their belief in me, and their support."

Friday, 4 October 2019
Patrick Cripps wins his third John Nicholls Medal as Carlton's best and fairest for the 2019 season.

Cripps polled 143 votes to become just the eighth player in the club's history to win three Blues best and fairests, with Ed Curnow (138 votes) and defender Lachie Plowman (134) close behind.

"To have won three John Nicholls Medals at just 24 is amazing – he now puts himself alongside some of the club’s best and he thoroughly deserves that," Carlton coach David Teague said.

"He is just such a competitor who works tirelessly to get his job done week in and week out, he sets the standards for our group and works to get the best out of not only himself but the whole group.

"It’s exciting for us to think that he has only just played 100 games and we think his best footy is still ahead of him."

Lachie Plowman will miss the remainder of the 2018 season with a knee injury after being stretchered from the field during Carlton's clash with Collingwood.

Plowman landed awkwardly in the second quarter of Carlton's 20-point defeat and required a stretcher to leave the field, unable to put any weight on his right leg.

Marc Murphy will skipper the Blues for a sixth consecutive season in 2018.

Patrick Cripps and Sam Docherty are Murphy's new deputies in an eight-man leadership group including Kade Simpson, Ed Curnow and fresh faces Matthew Kreuzer, Alex Silvagni and Lachie Plowman.

Wednesday, 6 December 2017
Lachie Plowman signs a new two-year deal with Carlton that will keep him at the club until the end of 2020.

"Lachie has been a very dependable contributor for our backline since making his way to Ikon Park at the end of 2015," Carlton head of football Andrew McKay said.

"We’ll be eager to see Lachie take his game to another level in 2018 and beyond as a key pillar in defence for our side."

Wednesday, 25 May 2016
Lachie Plowman says he is benefiting from having pre-season hip surgery straight after crossing to the Blues from GWS.

"(It was) very frustrating, especially when you want to put your hand up and get a good start at your new club and impress the new coaches," Plowman said.

"At the same time, it was the right thing to do, (to) just get myself back on the right track. As you can see now, it's paying dividends."

Thursday, 10 December 2015
Lachie Plowman's first pre-season at Carlton is off to a bad start, with the defender set to be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after undergoing hip surgery.

Carlton announced that Plowman had a minor operation this week after experiencing ongoing discomfort since resuming pre-season training last month.

Wednesday, 21 October 2015
Troy Menzel has been traded to Adelaide for Sam Kerridge, in a deal that has paved the way for the Blues to pick up four Giants youngsters.

Menzel, the No.11 pick in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, joined Adelaide in exchange for Kerridge and pick No.28 at lunchtime on Wednesday.

In a separate deal, the Blues then on-traded pick No.28 together with No.77, 95 and Geelong's 2016 first-round pick (acquired in the Lachie Henderson trade) to Greater Western Sydney for Lachie Plowman, Jed Lamb, Andrew Phillips and Liam Sumner and pick No.8.

Friday, 9 January 2015
Lachie Plowman is set to miss the start of the premiership season after dislocating his left elbow when he fell awkwardly during a training drill.

"It's disappointing for Lachie as he's worked hard so far in the pre-season," Giants football manager Graeme Allan said.

"But we're very confident he'll regain full fitness and make an impact in 2015."

Friday, 13 June 2014
Greater Western Sydney has re-signed two more players with defenders Tim Mohr and Lachie Plowman each committing to contract extensions that will keep them at the club until the end of 2016.

"Lachie Plowman has shown a lot of promise in his first 11 games for the club and Tim Mohr has become one of our most important players as a key defender," GWS general football manager Graeme Allan said.

"Their decision to commit to the Giants is a strong endorsement of the club."

Saturday, 30 March 2013
Lachlan Plowman makes his AFL debut for GWS at Stadium Australia with 14 disposals (10 kicks and 4 handballs), 6 marks and a tackle in a 30-point loss to Sydney.
