Hawthorn delist Jonathan O'Rourke, Kurt Heatherley and rookie Dallas Willsmore.

"On behalf of the club I would also like to extend our thanks to Dallas, Jonathan and Kurt for their contribution to Hawthorn," Hawthorn general manager of football Graham Wright said.

"Each of these young men has demonstrated great commitment to Hawthorn and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours."

Jono O'Rourke played his first AFL match in 700 days in round 16 and admits to having been frustrated by injuries throughout his career.

"I haven't had a good run at it or an opportunity to put my foot forward from a young age. I've been hampered with injuries, then trying to push to get senior selection has been tough," Rourke said.

"But you learn a lot about yourself and footy as well, going through it all, so it goes quick, but it's just one of those things – that's footy sometimes and you've just got to keep pushing."

Jonathan O'Rourke suffers a significant hamstring injury in the VFL that will keep him out for an extended period.

"Jono’s really unfortunate. He's probably going to spend eight-to-10 weeks on the sidelines to try and get that hamstring right," Hawks elite performance manager Andrew Russell said.

Hawthorn is comfortable youngster Jono O'Rourke did nothing wrong despite being with Sydney Swans defender Michael Talia when he was arrested for alleged possession of cocaine in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Hawks' leadership group spoke with O'Rourke yesterday after news broke that Talia had been stood down by the Swans after being arrested outside a nightclub in Sydney's eastern suburbs.

Veteran midfielder Sam Mitchell said O'Rourke was simply caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"We dealt with that yesterday, a couple of the leaders just had a chat with him and figured out exactly what happened. Firstly, you want to have clarity around the situation," Mitchell said.

Jonathan O'Rourke's bid to force his way back into Hawthorn's senior side has been delayed, with the talented midfielder facing up to a month on the sidelines recovering from a strained hamstring.

O'Rourke, who was dropped two weeks ago after struggling for touch in the opening three rounds, pulled up with a three-to-four week hamstring injury in Box Hill's narrow VFL win over Coburg.

It continues a frustrating run of injuries for the former No.2 draft pick, with O'Rourke's two seasons at Greater Western Sydney blighted by hamstring issues and a broken jaw.

Following Hawthorn's thumping 138-point win over Carlton, former Giant Jonathan O'Rourke says he hopes to experience many more wins with the Hawks after being involved in only one win during his time at the Giants.

"Previous to this I've played in one win in the AFL, so to come out and have a convincing win makes it really enjoyable," O'Rourke said.

"While we're out there we just try to play our best footy. If we can keep doing that and go out there and not stop, put the foot down, it's good to watch and good to be a part of."

Wednesday, 25 February 2015
Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson says he expects new recruit Jono O'Rourke to have an immediate impact.

"We've recruited O'Rourke with a mindset of being able to contribute at senior level straight away," Clarkson said as part of AFL Media's #AskTheCoach series.

Hawthorn's culture of success was a key reason behind former No.2 draft pick Jono O'Rourke's decision to leave the Giants to continue his career at Waverley.

"(It's) a successful club and obviously coming back home I wanted to come to a good club with a good culture and I think Hawthorn's a perfect fit," O'Rourke said.

"Watching them they're just a classy side and the impressions are pretty high. Back-to-back premiers … it says enough.

"Seeing all the memorabilia and a bit of history to the club is also exciting coming from a new club that hasn't really established itself yet."

Thursday, 9 October 2014
Jonathan O'Rourke has become the first player to find a new home in this year's NAB AFL Trade Period after Greater Western Sydney agreed to send him to Hawthorn.

"Even though Jonathan has been interrupted with injury, he has shown some real promise in his first two seasons with the Giants," Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright said.

"Jonathan is a versatile midfielder with excellent ball use, can play inside and out and has a good combination of speed and endurance."

Giants midfielder Jono O'Rourke wants to be traded to Hawthorn.

O'Rourke, who is seeking a trade home to Victoria, had also been in discussions with St Kilda but the Saints were told on Tuesday that the 20-year-old would seek a trade to the Hawks.

Tuesday, 30 September 2014
Jono O'Rourke has informed GWS coach Leon Cameron he wants to return home to Victoria, with manager Tom Petroro from Stride Sports confirming he has had interest from Hawthorn and St Kilda.

"He doesn't have a preferred destination," Petroro said.

"He's had some interest from Hawthorn and St Kilda and there's a couple of others that have inquired about him as well. We're in no rush.

"I'm not putting a timeline on it. When the time's right and the stars align, then we'll make a decision."

Sunday, 14 July 2013
Jonathan O'Rourke makes his AFL debut for GWS at the SCG with 7 disposals (5 kicks and 2 handballs), 2 marks and 3 tackles in a 129-point loss to Sydney.
