Tom Bell Biography

Thursday, 4 October 2018
Tom Bell says he sought the advice of Lions football manager David Noble on what he needed to do get back onto an AFL list after being delisted by Brisbane.

"We sat down and went through the fundamentals of AFL, my positioning, my strengths, my weaknesses and we went through every single club and put myself in that bracket and tried to figure out what clubs might be best suited to me," Bell said.

Bell says he holds no animosity towards Lions coach Chris Fagan despite his delisting.

"Fages is someone who wants to see me succeed, but with the way Brisbane is going, I'm just not the right fit. They have to blood young players," he said.

Thursday, 6 September 2018
Brisbane has cut five players from its list, led by experienced trio Tom Bell, Rohan Bewick and Claye Beams.

The Lions have also delisted utility Marco Paparone and rookie-listed midfielder Jake Barrett.

None of the five played regular senior footy in 2018, but the cull means some age and games experience leaves the club.

Mitch Robinson concedes he didn't handle injury too well in 2017 after suffering a broken foot in round seven against Sydney and not playing again.

"Just mentally, rehab, the pressure of home with kids and trying to make sure they're happy … it wasn't much fun being in a moon boot," Robinson said.

"You have your own schedule, you barely see anyone, it's really tough.

"I was selfishly thankful 'Belly' (Tom Bell) broke his foot because I had someone to rehab with."

Thursday, 30 November 2017
Tom Bell recalls the moment he broke his leg five months ago.

"You hear a snap and look down and your leg is facing one way and your body the other," Bell said.

"I just went into shock straight away.

"There was a bit of pain involved, but for an injury like that, it wasn't as much as I thought it would be.

"Our physios stopped me from panicking and they were great, which I'm so thankful for."

Bell had to wait a week for surgery, and literally couldn't move from his couch.

He said his partner and father were both huge supports during that period.

"I didn't move for a week," Bell said.

"Any little movement that happened, like them sitting on the couch, was absolutely excruciating.

"The pain wasn't initial, but once the swelling went down and the shock had settled, a few days later, that's when the pain kicked in."

Monday, 20 June 2016
Tom Bell will have knee surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear and miss the rest of the season.
Wednesday, 17 February 2016
Tom Bell says it has been exciting to work with midfield coach Simon Black after moving to Brisbane from Carlton.

"I've been working closely with Simon Black and we've had a few focuses I've had to nut out and a few negatives in my game I'm working on," Bell said.

"He constantly tells me to do the extras. You want to do one more (thing) than your opponent. Blacky's great like that."

Monday, 19 October 2015
Tom Bell is now a Brisbane Lion after Carlton agreed to the midfielder's request for a trade home to Queensland.

Carlton received picks No.21 and 60 in the trade and gave pick No.41 to the Lions along with Bell.

"We are delighted to get Tom and to bring him back home to Queensland," Lions list manager Peter Schwab said.

"He had an excellent year in 2015 finishing fourth in the Carlton best and fairest and he?ll add plenty to our footy club.

"He's got experience, he's just starting to hit his peak years and he is a very strong and hard-running player."

Wednesday, 7 October 2015
The Brisbane Lions say they are confident in securing the services of Carlton midfielder Tom Bell during the upcoming trade period.

Bell is contracted to the Blues until the end of next year but is contemplating a return to his home state of Queensland.

"I'm pretty confident that we'll be able to do a deal with Carlton for Tom," Liions list manager Peter Schwab said.

"We're really keen to get Tom back to Queensland, so we're hopeful that'll happen."

Wednesday, 16 July 2014
Tom Bell signs a two-year deal with Carlton that will keep him at the club until the end of 2016.

"Over the next couple of years I just really want to find a regular spot in the team," Bell said.

"I've sort of been in and out the past couple of years and I want to cement a good position in the side that can hopefully take us to the top of the ladder."

Thursday, 4 July 2013
Tom Bell will be sidelined for three weeks with a broken jaw.

The elevated rookie suffered the injury on Saturday while playing for Carlton's VFL affiliate Northern Blues.

Friday, 22 February 2013
Carlton rookie Tom Bell is upgraded to the Blues' senior list after Andrew McInnes is placed on the long-term injury list following a knee reconstruction.
Thursday, 20 September 2012
Despite an impressive 2012 season, Tom Bell is fourth in line behind 3 other Carlton rookies for elevation to the senior list.

Bell may field offers from other clubs for a senior list position if he is not elevated by the Blues.

Saturday, 21 July 2012
Tom Bell makes his AFL debut for Carlton at Docklands Stadium with 13 disposals (11 kicks and 2 handballs), a mark, 4 tackles and a goal in a 18-point win over the Western Bulldogs.
