Joshua Green Biography

Monday, 10 September 2018
Josh Greene is delisted by Essendon.

"Josh was a very well-liked member of the playing group and he performed well in his games for the club, showing leadership both on and off the field," coach John Worsfold said.

"Unfortunately, he was curtailed by injuries at crucial times but always stayed positive. We wish Josh all the best with his future endeavours."

Harris Andrews has been given the all-clear by medical professionals to resume playing next week after recovering from concussion and bleeding on his brain resulting from a heavy knock from Giant Jeremy Cameron.

"He was a bit sick and sorry the first week or two, but he's made steady improvements since that point in time," Brisbane coach Chris Fagan said.

"You can see in his mood and his level of optimism and energy he's back to his normal self."

Tuesday, 13 March 2018
Josh Green becomes just the fifth player ever to be found guilty of staging after accepting a $1000 fine for an incident late in the Bombers' clash against Geelong.

Cats midfielder Mitch Duncan gave Green a light bump to the shoulder region in the last couple of minutes of the match, before the former Lion threw his head back and fell to the ground while holding his chin.

Friday, 10 November 2017
Josh Green signs a new one-year deal with Essendon to remain at the club in 2018.

"He added a dimension that we were looking for and he’s a very clever player," Essendon coach John Worsfold said of Green.

"We believe as he continues to build his fitness base, he will have an even bigger impact for us.

"Coming off a pretty serious injury and being really limited the previous year, we were rapt with the way he attacked his rehab program and got himself fit for the season."

Sunday, 20 August 2017
Essendon fears the worst for Josh Green after the small forward suffered a left foot injury in the Bomber's 33-point win over Gold Coast.

"He fractured a bone in his foot up in Brisbane a few years ago and had that pinned, and there's a possibility this is the same thing as the other foot," Essendon coach John Worsfold said.

Tuesday, 18 July 2017
Josh Green has been ruled out for at least two weeks after suffering a hamstring strain late in Essendon's win over St Kilda.
Tuesday, 28 March 2017
Josh Green will have to wait before facing his former side, the Brisbane Lions, after straining his hamstring in round one.

"We've had the hamstring scanned and what he's got is the lowest grade hamstring strain where the fascia around the outside of the muscle is interrupted," Essendon high performance manager Justin Crow said.

"There is no real muscle fibre disruption which is a good thing but the bad news for 'Greeny' is he won't be available against Brisbane. Normally with these injuries players miss two games."

Sunday, 18 December 2016
Josh Green will be spending his Christmas period to "catch up" on important fitness after battling a foot injury.

"I've been at Essendon about four weeks and I'm starting to integrate into the training now. The club's medical and rehab team have been fantastic so I should be training after Christmas, which is great and I'm really excited for that," Green seen.

"I'll be back able to play about six weeks after Christmas, and will train pretty hard over the break compared to the other boys because I need to catch up a bit. I'll have a bit of time to build a nice little base before the pre-season competition."

Tuesday, 15 November 2016
Essendon signs Josh Green for one year as a delisted free agent.

"I'm really grateful for the chance to revitalise my career at Essendon this season," Green said.

"I feel that my best football is still ahead of me and I can't wait to get in and do the hard work over the summer.

"I'm excited to join such a dynamic and talented list, and working under the great leadership of John Worsfold."

Wednesday, 2 November 2016
Josh Green says he is keen to get an opportunity at another club as a delisted free agent after being chopped from the Lions' list.

"Being delisted shocked me in a way, [particularly] at an age where my best football is ahead of me, and if given a chance at a new club I'm going to give it everything I've got," Green said.

"[I] need to work on my defensive side of things. That is what being that small forward requires and I will work as hard as I can."

Tuesday, 25 October 2016
Josh Green is delisted by Brisbane after playing 81 games with the club.

Green was the club's leading goalkicker in 2014 and 2015.

"It is disappointing when any player departs, and Josh has given great service to our club," Lions football manager David Noble said.

"We thank him for his time at the club and wish him all the best for his future."

Monday, 5 September 2016
Josh Green is understood to be open to a trade as he ponders a fresh start to revitalise his AFL career.
Wednesday, 13 January 2016
Josh Green is set to miss 10 weeks with a fractured foot.

Green was sporting a moonboot at the club's pre-season training camp at the Sunshine Coast, with the club initially thinking he had bone bruising.

However, after further scans, Lions football manager Matt Francis confirmed to AFL.com.au the 23-year-old had fractured his right foot.

It's the same foot that cost Green six matches last season with a stress fracture.

Brad Green will continue his assistant coaching career at North Melbourne after being released by Carlton.

Green will act as the Roos' new defensive assistant after spending three years at the Blues under Mick Malthouse and interim coach John Barker.

He was not retained by Malthouse's replacement, former Hawthorn assistant Brendon Bolton.

Green said he was thrilled at the opportunity offered by North.

"Coming to a club with such a strong history - and a club that's played in the last two preliminary finals - I'm really looking forward to the challenge, and it's an exciting challenge," he said.

"Looking from afar I've really enjoyed the way North play the game and certainly hope we can go one step further and, like everyone else around the club, play on that last day in September."

Tuesday, 1 September 2015
Dustin Fletcher is aiming to play for Australia for the final time in this year's International Rules Series against Ireland at Croke Park in November.

However the 40-year-old is no certainty to line up against Collingwood in what will be his 401st and, most-likely, final game at the MCG on Sunday.

"Dustin's a lot better. His biggest problem is he hasn't done many (kilometres) so we'll see how he is," Bombers doctor Bruce Reid said.

"The biggest problem for Fletch is that he won't play if he doesn't think he can play well, but he's still keen.

"He hasn't done the work [in a normal scenario] and he wants to stay fit because he's still got dreams to be the goalie when he's 40-odd in Ireland later this year."

Wednesday, 8 July 2015
Josh Green will spend four to six weeks out after an MRI confirmed a stress fracture in his foot.

Lions medical staff do not believe Green will require surgery.

Tuesday, 19 May 2015
Neville Jetta will consult a specialist to determine how close he is to returning from the concussion he suffered against Richmond in round four.

Jetta has missed the past three games but has continued to train as he waits for the all-clear to resume playing.

Monday, 18 May 2015
Josh Green says stinging criticism from Brisbane Lions Brownlow medallist Jason Akermanis was the spur he needed to recapture his best form.

Two weeks ago Akermanis said he thought Green was a "touch overweight".

This came hot on the heels of a scathing critique from Lions coach Justin Leppitsch after the round five loss against Gold Coast, saying his small forwards were not working hard enough without the ball.

However, in the past two rounds Green has responded by kicking three goals in wins over Carlton and Port Adelaide with his forward pressure now meeting Leppitsch's demands.

"I think you look at those things and make it spur you on," Green said.

"I had to review where I was going with my footy.

"It was probably the kick in the guts me and Lewy (Taylor) needed. We weren't playing our roles properly.

"We had a chat with Leppa and that's why he's a really good coach, he made it simple.

"Squizzy (Taylor) has made a move to the wing, which has been really good for him, and I've got back to that pressure and kicking goals."

Monday, 16 February 2015
Josh Green says he has worked on his defensive pressure over the pre-season in a bid to take his game to the next level.

"If we can tackle, chase, harass, it can really help out the defenders if we put pressure on up forward and create turnovers," Green said.

"It's a fitness thing, but I think I'm fit enough. It's more a concentration thing and an intent, wanting to do it.

"It's something I've worked on this pre-season and is a major focus for me."

Wednesday, 19 March 2014
Josh Green signs a two-year deal with Brisbane that will keep him at the club until the end of 2016.

"Brisbane is now home," Green said.

"There is a lot of exciting young talent at the club and I really want to be a part of the future."

Tuesday, 14 August 2012
Young Lions Claye Beams and Josh Green have re-signed with the club on two-year deals.

"It is fantastic, it is great to have two young guys like them agree to terms because we think they are an important part of our future," Lions football manager Dean Warren said.

Monday, 4 June 2012
Josh Green makes an impact as the Lions' sub after his three-goal cameo in the narrow win against West Coast.

"To come on and play a role, I'm happy with that," Green said.

"Come on when everyone's a bit tired and make an impact, whether it's goals or tackles, because you're a bit fresher than everyone, and just help the forward line out - that's the message the subs get.

"It's good to come in and play your role and if they keep playing me as the sub I'm happy to do that. I'm just happy to be in the team."

Saturday, 21 May 2011
Joshua Green makes his AFL debut for Brisbane at the Gabba with 12 disposals (3 kicks and 9 handballs), a mark and 3 tackles in a 14-point win over North Melbourne.
Tuesday, 23 November 2010
New Brisbane Lions recruit Josh Green says he did not have any indication that he would be picked up at the draft.

"No clubs [had] given me any idea. I went in and hoped for the best and it happened," Green said.

"I was really hoping to get picked up but I would have been happy with any pick. To get picked up by the Brisbane Lions at pick 32, I was really happy."
