Brendan Fevola Biography

Friday, 21 August 2020
Sam Walsh will be familiar with the surrounds of TIO Stadium when he runs out for Carlton against Gold Coast.

Walsh spent three years living in Darwin growing up, selling copies of the local Record outside games for the Northern Territory Football League, and even crossing paths with former Blues spearhead Brendan Fevola while doing so.

"He picked it up from me and had a read through it, and checked if he was on the front cover or not and then gave it back to me. It was pretty funny," Walsh recalled.

"I was a bit star-struck and then I thought he was going to buy it off me and maybe give me a tip, but he just gave it back."

Thursday, 26 March 2015
Carlton will officially welcome Brendan Fevola back into the fold as part of its pre-game celebrations ahead of its round one clash with Richmond at the MCG next Thursday night.

"We are making a concerted effort to re-engage Carlton people everywhere, and Brendan has always been a fan favourite amongst our supporter base," Carlton CEO Steven Trigg said.

"We are excited that he and his family will be part of Thursday night's pre-game celebration."

Thursday, 1 November 2012
Brendan Fevola says he is certain Carlton did not try to win games late in 2007, as the AFL considers widening its tanking probe.

"It is pretty obvious to people. The club didn't want to win and I wouldn't have wanted to win if I was a supporter. The long-term gain was not to win that game (in Round 22)," Fevola said.

"But no one ever said the word tanking. No one ever said we are going to deliberately lose. The AFL can't do anything until they find that evidence."

Tuesday, 9 October 2012
Former Coleman Medallist Brendan Fevola could make a surprise AFL comeback as he says AFL clubs have contacted his management.

"I'd love to get another crack. The worst thing about not playing football (at the top level) is when you retired you know you are finished, obviously I didn't get a chance to retire," he said.

"The fact that I can still play football, still hurts a bit, I know I could be out there and I know I could play well.

"The body is sound. I'm a full-forward, full-forwards don't get out too much ... The body is intact. The mind is good."

Wednesday, 11 July 2012
31-year-old Brendan Fevola says he still wants another crack at AFL level.

"It was more the off-field stuff. Now, I'm 31, and I'm not mature but I'm more mature than I was," he said on FOX FOOTY's Eddie McGuire Tonight.

"I'm really structured now with my three kids and wife - I don't go out anymore. If I got another crack at footy, it'd be 100 per cent footy."

Wednesday, 4 July 2012
Former Carlton captain Mark Maclure says dumping Brendan Fevola was the most positive move the Blues have ever made.

"I think it was the most positive move we ever made to get rid of Fev. He was the ultimate not-team man," Maclure said on The Blue Print Hangout.

"He was here for the worst 10 years in the history of this football club. That wasn't his fault. But he turned into a very selfish player."

Tuesday, 26 June 2012
Brendan Fevola says the nature of modern footy cost him his career and cheekily suggests he would have been more at home in the 1980s.

"I think now it's a really professional sport, there's a lot of money involved so the clubs have got to be hard and they've got to be strict," Fevola said.

"Because it's all about money and looking after sponsors and people pull sponsorship if people get in trouble. It's all about money.

"That's why it's good playing in the country - it's all about the love. I should have played in the eighties, I would have been sweet."

Friday, 22 June 2012
Fallen star Brendan Fevola will soon head to the US in a bid to start a punting career with an NFL club.

"Let's be honest, if there was any game that was fit for me, it's NFL. You walk on, you kick it, you walk off," Fevola said.

"Right down my alley, you don't have to run, you don't have to do anything - perfect, just got to be able to kick it."

Wednesday, 20 June 2012
In his autobiography, Fev: In my own words, Brendan Fevola says he once joked about tanking with an opponent and the team always knew what was best for Carlton.

"I remember one incident in our game against Essendon in round 20. We kicked four goals in the second quarter and were 21 points up when the half-time siren sounded," Fevola said.

"As I started walking towards the rooms, my opponent, Mal Michael, turned to me and said, 'What are you blokes doing? You don't want to win this game.' I smiled and said to him, 'Yeah, I don't think we'll win, mate.'

"Sure enough, we ended up losing by 10 points."

Saturday, 16 June 2012
Brendan Fevola kicks 18 goals for the New Norfolk in Tasmania in a one-off game in the Southern Football League.

"Yeah it was good. A good day out," Fevola said.

"It was great. Great for the town, there was in excess of five to six thousand here and it was a little bit cold and the mist and the fog was settling in and it was a great day.

"The crowd really enjoyed it and we had a good win, we kicked something like 20 goals in the last quarter and a half and we ended up winning by a fair bit."

Tuesday, 12 June 2012
Brendan Fevola cops a $1,000 fine following a Twitter tirade against an umpire who sin-binned the former AFL star in bush footy.

"Umpires is this league are a joke. Absolutely kidding them selfs. Need to realize their umpiring county footy. 5000 people to watch footy and the goal umpire thinks his a hero. Hope the crowd really abuse him," Fevola, 31, tweeted from the sideline.

Thursday, 10 May 2012
Barry Hall signs with the Wangaratta Rovers to play bush football in the same league as Brendan Fevola.

"We haven't formally explored it (paying Fevola) at board level but we will consider it and it would be conditional on the Yarrawonga game being swapped to a Sunday," rovers vice-president Barry Sullivan said.

Monday, 9 April 2012
Brendan Fevola kicks seven goals for the Yarrawonga Pigeons during their Easter Sunday clash with Lavington at Mulwal resulting in a grand final-type crowd and gate takings of more than $100,000.

Fevola also took the time to send tweets at half time practice steps learnt while rehearsing for the next series of the Seven Network's Dancing With The Stars.

"Trying to explain to him our forward line and he's more interested in trying to show me the jive," Pigeons co-coach Chris Kennedy told Melbourne's SEN radio.

"He was doing the dance steps out on the ground. I better get used to him sending Twitter at half-time, and playing video games. He's a laidback character."

Friday, 2 March 2012
Brendan Fevola will head to Tasmania to play a one-off game with the New Norfolk Eagles.

"The signing is a major coup for the club and will provide supporters and football fans in general with the opportunity to see an AFL great in action,'' an Eagles board member said.

"Brendan has agreed to participate in a number of club activities, including a New Norfolk Junior Football Club clinic sponsored by Norske Skog commencing at 2pm on Friday June 15 at Boyer Oval.''

Monday, 13 February 2012
Brendan Fevola has declared he would rather play country football in Yarrawonga this season than at AFL level with Port Adelaide.

"I would not have gone to Port Adelaide because they are not going to play finals," Fevola said.

"The only reason a club would have taken me is they were in a position to win a premiership. And I did not want to go interstate and leave my family again."

Tuesday, 7 February 2012
Former AFL spearhead Brendan Fevola has revealed he's signed to play with Yarrawonga in the Ovens and Murray Football League.

"I've got to get back into a bit of training," Fevola told 3AW's Sports Tonight. "I'm rapt to have a footy club."

Wednesday, 7 December 2011
Despite VIP Home Services offering to upgrade their sponsorship to Port Adelaide on the condition that they recruit him, Brendan Fevola says that he isn't banking on it to happen.

"It's nice to see that someone does want me to play for their club, but I think the footy club will put a quick stop to that and if he's a supporter of the club he'll pay his money anyway," Fevola said.

"I think footy clubs are a bit smarter than that. They've got list managers and I don't think sponsors have too much to say in the matter of drafting players."

Tuesday, 6 December 2011
A Port Adelaide minor sponsor says it will become a major partner in 2012 if the club recruits Brendan Fevola and Leon Davis.
Tuesday, 1 November 2011
GWS recruit Tim Mohr says Brendan Fevola was a great mentor in helping him to make it to the AFL.

"Fev was actually really, really good for my footy this year, he's a great teacher. He gave me the confidence to do things and pulled me aside and drill things into me," Mohr said.

"He'd tell me to use my pace and take the game on, so he was super for me. When you've got a bloke like him, who was an AFL star, telling me to use my pace and take the game on you sit up and listen to them."

Friday, 14 October 2011
Brendan Fevola's manager Rick Olarenshaw says he has received an enquiry from a Melbourne based club for his client who is keen to prove himself again at AFL level.

"I went out in circumstances that I don't like," he said.

"I'd love to get back and try and prove myself. The main objective is to just play footy and if I get on a list I'm pretty confident in my own ability that I could prove myself and get on to a senior list pretty quickly."

Tuesday, 11 October 2011
Brendan Fevola won't concede his dream of returning to the AFL is over, saying he can still play for up to five years.

"There's five or six teams that could suit a full-forward that are vying for a premiership. That's probably the window you'd be looking at," Fevola said.

"I could still play another three, four, five years I would've thought. The body's in-tact and I haven't had any bad injuries, touch wood. It's just a matter of getting the opportunity I suppose."

Friday, 9 September 2011
Brendan Fevola will nominate for the draft on the base fee in a bid to resurrect his AFL career.

"It's just the baggage that I have and hopefully I've dropped some of that off, hopefully most of it. Time will tell, but I'll kick myself if I don't get drafted, because it's my fault I haven't got an AFL career any more," Fevola said.

"So I'd like the opportunity to get that back. If I do get drafted it will be for minimum chips and I'll have to earn my spot."

Friday, 2 September 2011
Despite director Jeanne Pratt expressing a desire to see Brendan Fevola back at the Blues, it is unlikely according to former teammate Marc Murphy.

"It's good to see him kicking goals and playing some good footy, but in terms of him coming back here, or coming back to AFL footy, I'm not really too sure," Murphy said.

"With the way we're going forward I don't think he'll be back here at Carlton. If someone wants to pick him up then all the best to them and him."

Thursday, 25 August 2011
Brendan Fevola has been kicking goals in the VFL and says he would love another crack at AFL level.

"I don't think it's about footy. I think it's been about off the field and I think that I've been pretty good," Fevola said.

"It'd be hard to convince AFL clubs to take a crack, but I think that I can still play footy and if I did, I think I would take it with open arms. If you believe in fairytales, hopefully I get drafted."

Friday, 1 April 2011
Former Brisbane Lions and Carlton spearhead Brendan Fevola says going to rehab was an insighful experience.

"I think it's the best thing I've ever done, to go to the meetings, sit back and listen to other people's stories," he said.

"You certainly get a bit of a grip on life and you think things aren't that bad, there are some people who've gone through a hell of a lot of bad luck through their lives."

Tuesday, 22 March 2011
Brendan Fevola's managers, Velocity Sports, will no longer represent the troubled footballer.

"We've told Casey we cannot continue acting for Brendan in these contract discussions," Fevola's manager Peter Blucher said.

"It has become impossible for us to conduct contract talks when we don't know what he is thinking or what he will do next."

Brendan Fevola denies being dumped by his managers and says it was him who terminated the relationship.

"No, they didn't sack me at all. Last week when I was overseas we had a few things that I disagreed with and I said: 'It's going down a path where we should maybe, you know, part ways' - and now they've come out and said they sacked me, when it was the other way around," Fevola told Triple M.

"I don't know what it is, but people seem to want to give you a sting every now and again. Peter Blucher (Velocity co-manager) was on radio this morning and I gave him a bit of a blast about that. But they didn't sack me, that's the main thing."

Carlton president Stephen Kernahan has ruled out a return to the club for embattled former player Brendan Fevola.

"I couldn't see Fev coming back to the Carlton Football Club," he said.

"Seriously, it's a hard one. I haven't enjoyed seeing what's gone on the last few months and I hope he's alright. [I] want to get him back on the track, he does his best stuff when he's playing footy. Hopefully he can get with Casey and get back on the track. That's the best thing for him."

Friday, 11 March 2011
Brendan Fevola says he attempted suicide as deep depression set in over the Christmas after an argument with his wife Alex.

"I had a bit of a crack at my wrists. Everything got to me. I hit rock bottom and I just thought the easiest way to go was to do this, put everyone out of their pain by giving the pain to myself," Fevola said.

Thursday, 10 March 2011
Brendan Fevola's chances of resurrecting his football career have taken a hit after the confessed gambling addict admitted to spending hours at Crown casino playing poker before being asked by the casino staff to leave.

Fevola's decision to go on a holiday overseas to Los Angeles has also perplexed his manager Alastair Lynch.

"In the last week it was my strong recommendation that he doesn't go away at the moment.," Lynch said.

"Now I understand he's been through a really difficult time and needs a break but I think there's some real priorities for him and I don't think going overseas just at the moment should be a priority."

Wednesday, 9 March 2011
Port Melbourne coach Gary Ayres has urged Melbourne to get behind the Casey Scorpions' likely signing of Brendan Fevola.

The Demons have expressed concerns over Fevola being played at Casey ahead of some of their promising young key forwards.

"The bottom line is 'Fev' is a great footballer when everything's going right for him," Ayres said.

"There are things off the field that don't tend to go as well for Brendan for one reason or another, but you would like to think that on the football field those sort of younger players can look and learn from how Brendan goes about his playing trade."

Tuesday, 8 March 2011
Andrew Demetriou says Brendan Fevola will be welcomed back into the AFL if he overcomes his off-field problems.

"I wish Brendan well. He's entitled to, and I would like for him to, play football again. It's probably part of his rehabilitation," Demetriou said.

"We can't deprive anybody of their livelihood and if he makes a fist of it and a [AFL] club wants to recruit him next year, then so be it. He'll be welcome back and hopefully that would be a good part of his rehabilitation."

Monday, 7 March 2011
Former Brisbane Lion Brendan Fevola has signed with the Casey Scorpions in a bid to play AFL football in 2012.

"Our priority has always been ensuring that all the appropriate medical protocols are in place for Brendan, but we also need to be mindful that he is a footballer who still has aspirations to play in the AFL in 2012," Fevola's manager Alastair Lynch said.

"We believe the VFL is the best place for him this year, and appreciate the commitment shown to him by the Casey management and coach Brad Gotch."

Tuesday, 1 March 2011
The Brisbane Lions and Brendan Fevola are close to reaching a financial settlement.

"We're still having pretty productive discussions with Velocity [Fevola's management company] and we're very close," Lions chairman Angus Johnson said at a media conference.

"I don't want to put a time frame on it. It could happen this afternoon or it could happen tomorrow. It's fairly imminent. The discussions are productive ... but until both parties have signed off, we won't know."

Wednesday, 23 February 2011
Multi-premiership coach Mick Malthouse believes Brendan Fevola's time in the AFL is over and that the troubled footballer should take responsibility for his actions.

"Do I feel for him? I think you're responsible for yourself, quite frankly," Malthouse said about Fevola.

"You make your bed, you've got to lie in it."

Monday, 21 February 2011
Michael Voss says the Brisbane Lions made a mistake to recruit Brendan Fevola and it would be a mistake to keep him.

"Whenever you recruit a player, you recruit them on the premise that they can make you better," Voss said.

"That's what we hoped to get and clearly we didn't get that, so for us, I can't sit here and say it wasn't a mistake because he's now left our football club."

Sunday, 20 February 2011
The Brisbane Lions have sacked Brendan Fevola but his manager Alastair Lynch believes the termination is not legal.

"Brendan accepts that he has let his club and his teammates down but is committed to making amends and has always felt that the first step in making things right was his commitment to an extensive rehabilitation program to combat his battle with depression," Lynch said.

"He has stayed 51 days in a voluntary rehabilitation clinic and had reached the stage where he felt the next step was to return to football. He was fully prepared to return to the club under whatever conditions the club chose to impose."

A press release by the Lions explained the reason's for Fevola's sacking as being due to persistent breaches and an inability by Fevola to meet his obligations as a player.

Saturday, 19 February 2011
Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss says the Brendan Fevola situation is more complex than simply an issue of what he brings to the team on the field.

''It's not about whether he works well with (Brisbane captain) Jonathan Brown or whether we've kicked goals or we haven't, it's not about what skill component he brings or his talent he brings," Voss said.

''We've seen over a point in time that that's been unquestioned about what talent he has, but it's much more complex than that.''

Wednesday, 16 February 2011
Brendan Fevola will speak to the Brisbane Lions in the next few days after being cleared to leave his rehab clinic.

"We realise we need structures in place that will help him through the next stage of his life, which could mean life without football," Fevola's manager Alastair Lynch said.

"Football is important to him. All he wants to do is play football, all he has ever wanted to do is play football but he recognises he has got a lot of work to do."

Friday, 21 January 2011
Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss has given the strongest indication yet that Brendan Fevola will not play in 2011.

"At the moment we are planning for it to be an extensive time away from the football club. There are things that he has to deal with that (are) going to require time," Voss said about Fevola.

"I wouldn't expect to see the Fev around for quite a period of time; there is no time-line (on his suspension)."

Tuesday, 18 January 2011
Troubled forward Brendan Fevola's Magistrates Court appearance on Tuesday has been rescheduled.
Monday, 3 January 2011
The Brisbane Lions will postpone a decision on Brendan Fevola's future until the troubled full-forward is out of rehab.

"As a club, we've done as much as we can," Brisbane coach Michael Voss said.

"It's got to be his choice. The network is around him to try and get him through this period.

"He's got to make some strong decisions about what he wants to do. And that makes it more of a life issue for him as opposed to, 'Can he kick a football and can he kick goals?'."

Saturday, 1 January 2011
Controversial forward Brendan Fevola is barred indefinitely from any further pre-season training with the Lions following his arrest early on new year's day for public nuisance and obstructing police.

"Fevola was released from police custody at around 11am and immediately sought leave from the Lions to receive professional assistance," a statement from Brisbane read.

"As a result, Fevola will not be at training this Monday when the team resumes its preparations for the 2011 AFL season."

Wednesday, 22 December 2010
The AFL has concluded its investigation into an alleged incident involving Brendan Fevola in September and will not take any action.

"Respect and responsibility manager Sue Clark has conducted a thorough investigation of the matter independent of the Queensland police investigation," a statement by the AFL said.

"The AFL has determined that due to insufficient evidence, the matter should not proceed to the AFL tribunal."

Wednesday, 24 November 2010
AFL operations manager Adrian Anderson says the League will soon be making a decision on whether Brendan Fevola faces punishment for an alleged incident in Sept.

"That one is in the hands of the police so when a police action is current we allow them to do their job," Anderson said.

"We consult with them, cooperate with them, and in that case the court process will have to take its course before we decide what, if any, action we take."

Friday, 15 October 2010
Brendan Fevola joins his Lions teammates who will play an exhibition game in Shanghai, China and Brisbane captain Jonathan Brown says they are glad to have him back in the fold.

"It hasn't been a case of the players just dumping him while the cops were looking after him, and then trying to drag him back on board," Brown said.

"The players were very supportive of him the whole way. One thing I always like to get across, is we're a pretty united bunch and that is one thing we can hang our hat on."

Thursday, 7 October 2010
Brendan Fevola says he looks forward to getting on with his career despite the AFL and his club, the Brisbane Lions, keeping an inquiry open into an indecent exposure claim against him.

"I am obviously pleased with the outcome of the police investigation," he said.

"I was always confident justice would prevail because I knew, as I said from the outset, that I had done nothing wrong.

"I look forward, now, to putting this matter behind me, flying to China with the Lions boys next week, and completing my injury rehabilitation before focusing on an important pre-season."

Wednesday, 6 October 2010
Queensland Police has failed to find sufficient evidence to charge the Lions forward following an indecent assault complaint made against him.

However, Brisbane club chairman Angus Johnson says that a decision on Fevola's future at the Lions is still yet to be determined pending an internal investigation.

"I've asked Michael Bowers, our CEO, to gather all the facts because it's only very recently happened ... and then to come back to me and the board and we'll be making a statement as soon as we possibly can," Johnson said.

"Until I talk to Michael and talk to the board there's nothing I can say. We just need to get the facts and then we can work out how we can move forward."

Saturday, 25 September 2010
Suspended Lions forward Brendan Fevola has not heard from the club's hierarchy since his indefinite suspension but is hopeful of playing out his contract.

"Directors direct, players play and coaches coach. I don't have to worry about what the directors and board think," Fevola said.

"I think the directors of football clubs should worry about running the football club and let the players and coach play and coach footy."

Friday, 10 September 2010
AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou says Brendan Fevola may be sanctioned for his latest alleged indiscretion regardless of the result of police inquiries.

"What we learn from the police is relevant and important and if the Queensland Police determine they want to take matters forward, that is relevant," Demetriou said.

"If they determine they have no further action to take we would still reserve the right to conduct a further investigation."

Wednesday, 8 September 2010
The Brisbane Lions suspend forward Brendan Fevola indefinitely following complaints that he indecently exposed himself to a woman at a non-club function.

"The Brisbane Lions Football Club wants to make clear it is taking this incident seriously and feels the only proper course of action is to suspend Brendan immediately from all club activity until such time as the AFL and police have had an opportunity to investigate the matter further," Lions CEO Michael Bowers said.

"The club will continue to cooperate fully with the AFL and any Queensland police investigation. As a result of the suspension, Brendan will not be attending our Club Champion event tomorrow night."

The AFL will investigate an alleged indecent incident involving Brendan Fevola and will take further action after the police have finished their investigation.

"We are extremely concerned by this matter and take the complaint that has been made very seriously," general manager of football operations Adrian Anderson said.

"It is also important that as the matter is in the hands of Queensland Police that we do not cut across their investigation and we will be liaising with them concerning the manner in which we handle our investigation."

Brendan Fevola has denied any wrongdoing after allegations of indecent exposure were made on Wednesday.

"Brendan will co-operate fully with any investigation that is determined to be necessary by Queensland Police or the AFL," a statement by his management company, Velocity Sports Management, said.

"He categorically denies any inappropriate behaviour in relation to the alleged incident.

Friday, 20 August 2010
Brendan Fevola speaks to channel 9's The Footy Show about his battle to overcome gambling and drinking demons to get his life back on track.

"I haven't had a punt for a good six months probably, which is good," he said.

"Money that I didn't have in the first place was going not through my hands - straight to the bookies. I have probably been gambling since I was 17. So every year or every game of footy I've played, I've been worried about who won what race and stuff."

Brendan Fevola is at odds with the Lions after being told to stay in Brisbane for rehabilitation despite wanting to return to Melbourne to spend time with his family.

"Because of the significance of the injury he has to spend some time in solid rehab just for his own career's sake. The early weeks of rehab are pretty crucial," Lions captain Jonathan Brown said.

"He needs to tick all the boxes in this rehab to get back to the Coleman Medal winning form. He's had a year of injury problems so the off-season needs to be used as a mental freshen up but also as a time to get his body back on track."

Wednesday, 14 July 2010
Lions spearhead Brendan Fevola says rumours he is homesick and wants to leave Brisbane are false.

"My mum rang me today and said on 3AW there was a rumour that I was homesick and I want to go home. It was the first I'd heard of it," Fevola said.

"She was saying, 'Why do you want to come home?' I said, 'I don't want to come home, Mum. I'm staying in Brisbane'."

Thursday, 17 June 2010
Brendan Fevola feared he would never reach his 200th game, but now that it's here, the Lions' spearhead believes he has plenty more football ahead of him.

"I'm 29, in my peak," Fevola said.

"Two more years after this and then hopefully play till I'm 33, 34 so hopefully I can play another hundred or so games.

"As long as I keep my pace and look after my body I think I can play for a lot longer than what my contract is at the moment."

Monday, 17 May 2010
Brisbane Lions coach calls for a lift in work rate from star full-forward Brendan Fevola after four straight losses.

"His work rate is not high enough, and as a result you always look a little bit sorer and don't look like you're as into the game. That's something he has got to address quite urgently," Voss said.

"He's had a couple of little ailments that have prevented him from training."

Saturday, 17 April 2010
Brendan Fevola says he is determined to beat his gambling addiction which has significantly impacted on his life.

"Now that it is out I feel better that it has come out ... just play good footy and hopefully get off the punt and win some games up here and hopefully play some finals footy,'' he said.

"I've probably been a bit fortunate where it really hasn't impacted on my footy. I've still played really good footy. Once you cross that line you're in footy mode, you get here and do what you do best.''

Friday, 16 April 2010
Brendan Fevola admits to a gambling addiction which Lions coach Michael Voss says he became aware of in January.

"We were aware there were things going on but as you're aware it's pointless unless the person comes to you and says I want to do something about it. That takes courage to be able to do it and it takes courage to be able to say it publicly. I commend him," Voss said.

Blues coach Brett Ratten says he questioned Brendan Fevola about his gambling habits when he was still playing for Carlton.

"We asked the question, but he denied it so that's all you can do and try to be there for support. It's good that he's come out and admitted it, so hopefully he gets over that really quickly and we wish him well," Ratten said.

Sunday, 11 April 2010
Jonathan Brown says his brilliant goalkicking form can be put down to the work of his newest teammate, Brendan Fevola.

"He's just a really smart forward; he's easy to work with, you know where he's going to lead, and we're really enjoying it - enjoying working down there," Brown said.

"He's certainly given me a lot of space. He's working very hard defensively as well, getting tackles and giving off those goals."

Friday, 9 April 2010
Brendan Fevola will not be punished by the AFL over his involvement in the Lara Bingle nude photo affair.

"Given the evidence currently available to us and the time elapsed since the alleged behaviour, the AFL has not established that a breach of our rules has occurred," AFL football operations general manager Adrian Anderson said in a statement.

"However, we will continue to monitor whether there are legal proceedings arising from this matter and the AFL remains willing to speak with Ms Bingle."

Friday, 2 April 2010
Brisbane Lions forward Brendan Fevola admitted that the build-up to Thursday's win over Carlton had weighed heavily on his mind but that it was eased after a meeting with skipper Jonathan Brown.

"He made me a cappuccino and he said, 'How you going big fella?' and I said 'I'm bloody nervous', and I don't get nervous so he sat me down and I don't know what we talked about but I left and I wasn't nervous any more after that," Fevola said.

Thursday, 1 April 2010
The Herald Sun reports that star Brisbane recruit Brendan Fevola is unhappy with Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss over his gag order ahead of the match against his old club Carlton.

Voss had claimed that it was Fevola who initiated the media ban as a means to relieve the "emotional load" he was carrying from the Bingle affair.

Fevola's manager, Alastair Lynch, however, claims that Fevola is quite prepared to speak to the media about the match but has been prevented from doing so by Voss.

Saturday, 27 March 2010
Paul Roos says the decision to ignore pursuing Brendan Fevola helped deliver Daniel Bradshaw for free to the club.

"If we were to chase Fevola hard it would have deflected us from Seaby, Mumford, McGlynn and Kennedy," Roos said.

"What you end up doing is have so many balls in the air, you get nothing done by the end of trade week. Then at the end of the the week the fact we didn't go after Fevola helped us get Bradshaw.

"You can't waste effort on something you are 99 per cent sure won't happen."

Thursday, 25 March 2010
A 56-point thumping of Richmond backs up Carlton's claim that it can still kick winning scores without Brendan Fevola.

"Today we had that nice spread of three blokes getting three goals which is fantastic for us," Carlton coach Brett Ratten said.

"I think it just makes us a little bit more unpredictable. It is only one game that we've had the success with that so the challenge now is to back that up."

Friday, 12 March 2010
Chris Judd reveals that he tried his best to pull Brendan Fevola in line as the wayward forward began a series of drunken escapades that ultimately led to him being traded from Carlton.

"A lot of people have asked me since, `Why didn't you say something to him?'" Judd explained.

"I did have words with Brendan on Brownlow night and managed to stop him doing 'Street Talk'. We had a bit of an argument over that, at which time I grabbed (girlfriend) Bec and went up to bed.

"I'm completely comfortable with my behaviour on Brownlow night and what I did to help Fev. I don't feel responsible for Brendan's actions."

Thursday, 11 March 2010
Wayne Carey says Brendan Fevola should take responsibility and accept the blame for his own actions.

"He may be sitting there pointing the finger or thinking I haven't done this or that, or it's not that bad," Carey said.

"But once again it's laying the blame on someone else. He is a victim of his own profile, but at the same time he has to take ownership of that and realise any little thing he does he will come under more scrutiny than any other player."

Wednesday, 10 March 2010
AFL operations manager Adrian Anderson says investigations into Brendan Fevola's unauthorised picture of Lara Bingle have stalled due to a lack of co-operation from Bingle's management.

"The only stumbling block from our point of view in this investigation which we commenced straight away is that we do not have co-operation from Bingle's people (management) to be able to talk to her and we are continuing to seek to do so,'' Anderson told SEN radio.

"It is fundamental in any professional investigation to speak to the alleged victim and hear her version of events."

Thursday, 4 March 2010
Brendan Fevola has been dropped from a campaign to promote rounds one and two of the Brisbane Lions 2010 season after being recently implicated in the unauthorised distribution of a compromising photo of model Lara Bingle.
Wednesday, 3 March 2010
Adrian Anderson says the AFL has taken a serious view of Brendan Fevola's alleged involvement in the release of a nude photo of Lara Bingle.

"Let me just be clear that from an AFL point of view, taking photos of women without their consent and circulating them in that situation is unacceptable," Anderson said.

"We are speaking to the club and we're speaking to the player and we'll make those enquiries before we decide any particular action in this case."

Friday, 26 February 2010
Blue-turned-Lion Brendan Fevola is greeted by boos in Friday's NAB Challenge match at Visy Park.

"You expect that. You get booed by most other team's [supporters] as well, so it's nothing - its water off a duck's back," Fevola said.

"I was a little bit nervous this morning before the game but once you're out there you just play footy."

Fevola kicked two goals in Brisbane's loss to Carlton.

Thursday, 25 February 2010
Carlton's Andrew Carrazzo says the Blues have been trying to play down the hype surrounding Brendan Fevola's return to Visy Park in a NAB Challenge match with Brisbane.

"We've talked about it a little bit - it should be interesting. Obviously we haven't played against him before, but we'd just like to see it like any other game," Carazzo said.

"A few of the boys are still pretty close with Fev and he is that sort of guy who you can have a bit of a joke with, but it should be business as usual when we get out there."

Monday, 15 February 2010
Western Bulldog Jason Akermanis has his doubts as to whether Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola can work together in the Brisbane Lions' forward line saying that Daniel Bradshaw was a better complement for Brown.

"Bradshaw was a great sort of swingman for 'Browny' and 'Browny' was happy to play the lead role," Akermanis said.

"What will happen if two guys are playing the lead role? 'Hang on man, this is my show'. I know they are both very dominant guys, so they're both going to want their piece of the pie."

Monday, 8 February 2010
Jarrad Waite says he is excited about Carlton's new-look forward line after the departure of Brendan Fevola.

"It is really exciting because for the last 10 years that Brendan's been there, we've had one forward," Waite said.

"All clubs used to know to drop off `Fev', now we have a very potent forward line with Fisher, we'll chuck Kreuzer down there, Wiggins.

"We don't really want someone who's going to kick 80 goals, we want about four or five who are going to kick 30-35 ... and make it hard for oppositions to defend us."

Thursday, 4 February 2010
Brendan Fevola has revealed a little known ambition to become a policeman.

"Three years ago I actually studied for three months at Griffith University, here in Queensland, to be a policeman,'' he told students Cooroy State School on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Brendan Fevola says he hopes he can be part of a Brisbane side that can crack the top four in 2010.

"Hopefully I can add a bit of a different mix down there with Brownie and hopefully kick a few goals," Fevola said.

"Hopefully we'll finish top four. That's our expectation and if you finish top four, you've got every chance to win a premiership."

Wednesday, 20 January 2010
Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss is confident boom recruit Brendan Fevola will be ready to go for the NAB Cup clash with the Western Bulldogs.

"He's had a full pre-season. I think he might have missed one session since we started, so his work and his training has been really, really good," Brisbane coach Michael Voss said.

"You get to this time of year and if you get the opportunity to play, you probably want to play. Fev's no different. While I'm sure he's done well in training, I don't think training is necessarily his favourite part of the week."

Tuesday, 1 December 2009
Blues recruiting manager Wayne Hughes explains his decision to draft 3 smaller players, including Kane Lucas, Marcus Davies and Rohan Kerr, at the 2009 NAB AFL draft rather than a tall player to replace the now-departed Brendan Fevola.

Hughes' explanation comes in the wake of some backlash by Carlton supporters over his decisions at the draft.

"We rated Kane Lucas higher than any of the tall players left in the draft at pick 10 as John Butcher had already gone to Port Adelaide. You will find the draft full of tall players taken first round who didn't work," Hughes said.

Sunday, 22 November 2009
Brisbane hired security guards to spy on new recruit Brendan Fevola when he joined friends at a hotel for a farewell to Melbourne.

Fevola is said to be initially unaware of their presence before calling the Lions to ask about them.

Wednesday, 11 November 2009
Brendan Fevola says he is loving the Queensland lifestyle and weather.

"Waking up to this weather I said to my wife we may never go back, and the kids love it up here so I hope I can stay and have a new life up here," he said.

"This is a beautiful state and this weather you can't beat."

New Brisbane Lion Brendan Fevola admits he still has a special place in his heart for the Blues.

"Carlton will always be my heart,"' he said.

"I love Carlton. My little girl still runs around the house singing the theme song so I've got to try and get her to know the Brisbane theme song. I've got to learn that first then teach her.''

Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss says Brendan Fevola deserves to have a fresh start.

"I think the important thing is to say is that he's a Brisbane Lions player and he gets that chance to have that fresh start and a fresh set of eyes and as coach I'll treat him that way," he said.

Tuesday, 10 November 2009
Brett Ratten says he hasn't spoken to Brendan Fevola since the key forward was traded and is disappointed he hasn't cleared the air with the now-Brisbane Lion.

"Do you call him and have a chat about it or do you expect that at 29 he might get on the front foot and talk about it? But that wasn't the case and every individual is different," Ratten said.

"Maybe he just needed some space and to reflect on it later in life."

Sunday, 1 November 2009
Carlton reveals that they will be paying part of Brendan Fevola's salary in 2010 after trading him to Brisbane.

"It's a very small portion of his wage, let's leave it at that. It's not half, that's for sure," Blues CEO Greg Swann said.

Friday, 30 October 2009
The Irish barman attacked by Brendan Fevola says he is still angry about the incident.

"It just makes me mad that he got away with it,'' he said.

"If I owned a pub he wouldn't get through the door. You don't want his children watching their dad and his antics played out on television or the internet.''

Tuesday, 20 October 2009
AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou says Carlton acted appropriately in dealing with Brendan Fevola.

"Brendan Fevola was fined $10,000," Demetriou said.

"That's not an insignificant amount of money, and secondly he was told that he was to be traded, and that's about as close to a sacking as I can think of.

"So we felt that the action taken by Carlton was appropriate."

Friday, 16 October 2009
AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson says Brendan Fevola will be suspended if he is found to have sexually assaulted a journalist during the 2009 Brownlow medal count.

"At this stage the woman concerned doesn't wish to talk to us. We've provided assistance in the form of support and counselling but we're in her hands at the moment," Anderson said.

"We've encouraged her to come forward. It's always a delicate situation, but we'd like to talk to her and if we find a player has sexually assaulted a female we'll have no hesitation in suspending that player and giving them a decent holiday."

Wednesday, 14 October 2009
Brendan Fevola reveals he tried to get Eddie McGuire to arrange for him to be traded to Collingwood on the final day of trade week before being successfully traded to Brisbane.

"I wanted to go to the Pies but Eddie couldn't get a deal done," Fevola said.

"I don't think the Blues wanted to deal with the Pies but, yeah it would have been nice to stay in Melbourne but that's the beauty about our game - it's a national sport and you can just go anywhere I suppose."

Tuesday, 13 October 2009
Lachlan Henderson says he put his hand up to move to Carlton after sensing he may have had a lack of opportunities at Brisbane if Brendan Fevola moved north.

"When I first heard about bringing Fev up north, I knew it would put me out for a couple of years," Henderson said.

"I spoke to Vossy on Thursday night and then again on Friday morning after the decision was made.

"He said they didn't want to lose me but it was my choice and he would understand either way. So from there it came down purely to opportunity."

Friday, 9 October 2009
The Brisbane Lions will boast the game's most feared forward line, after landing Brendan Fevola and draft pick No. 27 in exchange for young key position player Lachlan Henderson and pick No. 12.

"Prior to the AFL exchange period we announced that we had made what was a difficult decision for everyone at Carlton, that we would be seeking to trade Brendan Fevola, and following discussions with Brendan during the last week he agreed he needed a change of environment for his future and his preference was to be traded rather than return to Carlton," Carlton president Stephen Kernahan said regarding the trade.

"This decision is based on what we believe is best for the Carlton Football Club, importantly the playing group or individual players were not involved in the decision, it was a matter for the club and not just an on-field issue."

AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson says the league has not yet received an official complaint regarding allegations of harassment against Brendan Fevola by a female member of the media that was broadcast on radio station 3AW .

"We have spoken to the employer of the woman concerned, and provided support and access to counselling," Anderson said.

"We've also made it clear the AFL is ready and willing to act on any breach of how we expect our players to behave towards women."

Carlton president Stephen Kernahan expresses his sorrow at having to trade Brendan Fevola says if he could take back Brownlow Medal night, he would.

"I have got a heavy heart; I have been through a lot with Brendan personally over 11 years and he was a fantastic player for this footy club. If I could turn back Brownlow Medal night, and this is just me speaking, absolutely I would," he said.

Lions coach Michael Voss has no concerns about Brendan Fevola's off-field antics.

"I've been aware like most people what happened on Brownlow night. I think for us it's about being able to provide the environment and support he needs. I think we have a very healthy football culture at our club that's going to help Brendan maximise his football capabilities," Voss said.

New Brisbane Lion Brendan Fevola says his post-Brownlow behaviour was "absolutely disgusting".

"It was absolutely disgusting, my behaviour. I've been in trouble a bit over the time and you never really see what's happened, and to watch those tapes of the Footy Show you just look at it and think 'I don't want to be that person' and you don't want to be back there again and it was quite embarrassing," Fevola said.

Thursday, 8 October 2009
Brisbane Lions Daniel Bradshaw and Michael Rischitelli were given a tour of Carlton's headquarters at Visy Park after being linked to a trade involving Carlton spearhead Brendan Fevola.

Bradshaw will have to pass a medical examination before Carlton accepts the deal.

Michael Rischitelli's reluctance to join the Blues puts the trade involving a swap for Brendan Fevola with him and teammate Daniel Bradshaw in jeopardy.

''He's staying in Brisbane,'' Rischitelli's manager Rick Olarenshaw said.

''He's got a Queensland girl, long-term partner, and he's happy in Queensland. And he loves playing for Vossy.''

Sunday, 4 October 2009
Colingwood great Tony Shaw is critical of Magpies skipper Nick Maxwell for voicing his opinion against trading for Brendan Fevola saying that there was no room in the team for the Blues forward.

"I reckon Nick has done a great job, but is he saying that's a club issue or his own issue? Because he shouldn't be commenting on recruitment at all," Shaw said.

"That should be left to the recruiting and administration and the coaching staff. As captain you don't even get involved in that stuff."

Thursday, 1 October 2009
Brendan Fevola's first AFL coach David Parkin says he feels some responsibility for the wayward forward's actions.

"We've got to take the blame that we didn't change or modify his behaviour early in his career and he has maybe been able to get away with things that he shouldn't have," Parkin said.

Garry Lyon, a close friend of Brendan Fevola, says he supports Carlton's decision to put their key forward up for trade.

'It's a brave move, but if you are a supporter of Carlton, I'd support it, because they are in the best place to make that sort of a call,'' Lyon said.

'I hope Carlton benefit as a stronger unit and I hope Fev benefits with a lesson learnt, and he goes on and plays fantastic footy somewhere else.''

Wednesday, 30 September 2009
Carlton has lost patience with Brendan Fevola and will try to offload the full-forward in next week's trade period.

"I acknowledge that this is largely of my own doing, I remain remorseful for the events of the past 10 days and once again apologise to those people I have let down - especially family and friends," Fevola said in a statement in response.

"But I cannot turn back the clock. Instead I will welcome the opportunity to join a new club and look forward to pursuing the dream of an AFL premiership."

Tuesday, 29 September 2009
Carlton president Stephen Kernahan has not ruled out the possibility of Brendan Fevola being made available for trade following the spearhead's indiscretions last week.

"We've seen what happened last week, which no-one is really happy with," he said.

''We all want 'Fev' to be there next year, it's just getting over what happened the other night.''

"Anything is possible -we've got a decision to make."

Monday, 28 September 2009
Brendan Fevola, whose unsociable behaviour has been under scrutiny of late, has told the Carlton Football Club that he will not be attending their best-and-fairest count at Crown Casino.

Wednesday, 23 September 2009
Carlton's Brendan Fevola is expected to be kicked off the Grand Final edition of The Footy Show after his drunken antics at the Brownlow Medal.

"He is a repeat offender and he will have to be answerable to his club and I have got no doubt that he will be,'' AFL chief Andrew Demetriou said.

"He knows by his own admission that he doesn't handle alcohol well, so he has got to start listening to his own advice. That is the first thing.''

Blues spearhead Brendan Fevola has been fined $10,000 by the club for his unruly and drunken behaviour at the Brownlow Medal count.

"While Brendan is officially on holidays, he was representing the Carlton Football Club and the AFL at Monday night's function," Carlton CEO Greg Swann said in a statement released by the club.

"Much of his behaviour, particularly at the post Brownlow function, was totally unacceptable."

Thursday, 10 September 2009
Brendan Fevola comes under fire for his Mad Monday antics after waving a pink dildo around while out with teammates at a pub following the end of his club's 2009 season.

"I got set up a little bit there, but I think the boys erupted when the thing come out," he said.

"It was quite funny at the time. Wasn't funny the next day, though."

Thursday, 13 August 2009
Carlton coach Brett Ratten says full forward Brendan Fevola will not be rattled on the field by any niggling from Chad Cornes despite Cornes saying he would try to "get under the skin" of some Carlton players.

"I don't think we have to worry about Brendan with his mindset in the game, I think he has played footy long enough, he's an experienced campaigner," Ratten said.

"Would Chad Cornes be the first to verbally attack Brendan Fevola on the football field? Brendan has played 200 games, he's probably got a list of 150 blokes plus others that have chipped in as well.

"He won't be the first and he won't be the last."

Tuesday, 4 August 2009
Geelong coach Mark Thompson nominates Joel Corey as an option for standing Carlton key forward Brendan Fevola in the absence of the injured Matthew Scarlett.

Sydney Swans defender Ted Richards has been released from hospital after four days of treatment for injuries suffered in last Saturday's horrific on-field clash with Carlton's Brendan Fevola.

The 105kg Fevola's knee broke four of Richards' ribs - two of them twice - and punctured a lung but the defender was all smiles as he left Melbourne's Alfred Hospital on Wednesday night.

"I'm feeling better. I'm just excited about being able to get out of here," he said.

"I've spent a while in here and I got a bit sick and tired of sitting in the same bed watching TV. Midday TV is not too good.

"Blood and fluid was getting into my lung and they had to drain that out. It was just a matter of getting all that out before I was allowed to go home but the lung has come up really well."

Monday, 20 July 2009
Paul Roos has paid tribute to Ted Richards who was taken to hospital after a heavy collision with teammate Craig Bolton and Carlton's Brendan Fevola.

"He really is a courageous player but unfortunately things like that happen from time to time and I'm sure Teddy would agree with that," Roos said.

"But it was a courageous act and the real positive is that he's okay and hopefully he's up and about soon."

Friday, 17 July 2009
Carlton star Brendan Fevola has moved to quash rumours he has a gambling problem as well as rumours that he was throwing games to settle his debts.

"That's ridiculous in itself. I'd heard that one, that I was deliberating missing goals to pay off a $1 million debt," Fevola said.

"I wanted to talk about it tonight to put it to bed. You do hear a lot of rumours and I think the media and certain radio stations like to talk about gossip and hearsay."

Thursday, 16 July 2009
Once interested in Brendan Fevola, Sydney now says it will not seek the Blue forward.

"If Brendan Fevola was available for trade last year, would we have been interested, yeah, we would have been," Swans coach Paul Roos said.

But asked whether the club would go after Fevola again, Roos said: "As I sit here now, no, because he's signed up for three years.

"We've got Jesse White, we've got Lewis Johnston ... so in our own minds as we sit here now, no, he certainly doesn't come into our thinking."

Wednesday, 1 July 2009
Brendan Fevola has declared himself a certain starter for Sunday's clash with Fremantle at Subiaco despite having finger surgery.

"I'll be right. I was in and out in a couple of hours on Saturday morning. It was pre-organised on the Thursday because we had an eight-day break," Fevola said.

"I went in there, had a quick clean-up and I'll be ready to go. I can move it, which is good.

"There were a few broken bones and a few torn ligaments, so every time the ball hit my hands it ached.

"I just had to get in there and get it done for the next nine games. It's all done and fixed and I'm looking forward to the weekend."

Tuesday, 30 June 2009
Bombers defender Tayte Pears has been rewarded for his shutdown job on Brendan Fevola with a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination.

Carlton coach Brett Ratten says Brendan Fevola's extroverted nature and growing influence on his teammates make him even more valuable.

"What Brendan brings to our team is that extroverted nature," Ratten said.

"We've done emotional intelligence testing on all of our players and we've got a lot of introverts.

"Brendan is one of the few extroverts at our club, along with Mitch Robinson, so we do need some balance overall and I think Brendan brings that."

Young Essendon defender Tayte Pears will get first crack at Blues' full forward Brendan Fevola on Friday night.

Essendon assistant coach Alan Richardson said the Bombers would resist the temptation to start with the more experienced Dustin Fletcher on the dangerous forward.

"Fletcher will certainly get his opportunity to play on Fev. Tayte Pears will be the one early. He will get first crack and he has been in terrific form so he will get first go," Richardson said.

"The way Fletcher plays, it will be more a team defence than perhaps a one-on-one defence. We hope we can get that structure right."

Wednesday, 24 June 2009
Carlton star Brendan Fevola has raised the stakes for tomorrow night's crucial MCG clash against Essendon, indicating it is payback time for the Blues after the Bombers publicly celebrated a narrow round 3 victory over them.

Fevola proposed on television shows that the six new match-day balls be used in the pre-match warm-up to take the hardness off them before the first bounce.

"Believe it or not I think Fev might be right for once," Sherrin's product manager Brad Rendell told SEN Radio.

"Its like any new leather product, such as a new pair of football boots. Fev wouldn't wear them straight out of the box and onto the ground in a game.

"A football is very similar. Once its kicked in a bit it softens up, it stretches and then comes to its perfect shape."

Saturday, 2 May 2009
Carlton full forward Brendan Fevola said his "heart sank" when he missed the potential match-winning goal against Hawthorn at the MCG.

"I don't think I've ever been close to tears after a game, but that was close," Fevola said after desperately wanting to win the game in honor of the late Richard Pratt.

"It pulled at the heartstrings and I was pretty heartbroken.

"I went back in my normal routine. I never have a shot that I don't think I'll get. I glanced at the clock and it was past 31 minutes, so I knew this probably would be the last chance of victory. I was only 20 metres out on a slight angle and I thought it had gone through, but it drifted a lot and just nicked the post.

"I still can't believe I missed it, and my heart sank."

"I do some silly things but I'd be pretty silly to leave this club. The next three years, I reckon we'll be up there playing finals footy. It's a massive lure to play finals and to play in a grand final would be the ultimate."

"I always thought it would be great for Brendan to finish his career at Carlton," Carlton coach Brett Ratten said. said.

"What he's done so far this year has been outstanding. He's a Carlton person through and through."

Blues CEO Greg Swann says that Fevola has been effectively banned from consuming alcohol and any further problems will result in Fevola being sacked from the club.
