Cameron Guthrie Biography

Thursday, 29 October 2020
After a breakout All-Australian season, Cam Guthrie wins Geelong's best and fairest award for 2020.

Guthrie (228 votes) edged out Tom Hawkins (224) and Mark Blicavs (221) in a tight finish to the 'Carji' Greeves Medal count.

Tuesday, 19 June 2018
Cam Guthrie signs a new three-year deal to remain at Geelong until the end of 2021.
Friday, 8 September 2017
Cam Guthrie will be battling to return in the finals after suffering a calf strain just after half-time in Geelong's qualifying final against Richmond.
Wednesday, 15 March 2017
Joel Selwood will lead Geelong once again after the club announced at its season launch on Wednesday night he would be Cats captain for the sixth consecutive season in 2017.

The 28-year-old's brother, Scott Selwood, will join him in the eight-man leadership group for the first time with 24-year-old Cam Guthrie also making his debut in the group.

Harry Taylor, Patrick Dangerfield, Tom Hawkins, Mitch Duncan and Mark Blicavs round out the Cats' leadership group for the year.

Monday, 20 February 2017
Cam Guthrie will be sidelined for a fortnight after suffering a minor calf strain against Hawthorn in the opening game of the JLT Community Series.

The 24-year-old left the ground in the first quarter and scans revealed his injury was likely to keep him out of the Cats' next match against Adelaide.

Monday, 14 December 2015
Cam Guthrie says he is looking to spend more time in defence next season after the off-season arrival of midfielders Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Selwood.

"There will be more depth in the midfield so guys might be playing different positions a bit more," Guthrie said.

"I've been spending a bit more time in defence in the pre-season, so I'll probably juggle that throughout the year - midfield and playing as a defender."

Thursday, 13 August 2015
Cameron Guthrie re-signs with the Cats for a further three years, committing to the club until at least the end of 2018.

"It's an exciting place to be around," Guthrie said.

"The club has been a big part of my adult life. I played a bit as a defender in my first few years, and I've transitioned into the midfield more recently, and the team's been playing some good footy."

Wednesday, 27 August 2014
Against Hawthorn on Saturday night, Geelong midfielder Cameron Guthrie set a statistical record that is unlikely to be chased with much vigour.

With his 33 disposals, Guthrie gained just 24 metres to unwittingly set a new mark for the fewest metres gained by a player registering 30 or more disposals in a game.

While the title might seem unwanted, Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson held it before Guthrie, having gained just 38 metres in a 30-possession game against Collingwood in round 20, 2010.

Monday, 23 September 2013
The Match Review Panel offers Jarryd Roughead a reprimand for his bump on Geelong's Cameron Guthrie, allowing him to play in this week's Grand Final.
Monday, 19 March 2012
Emerging defender Cameron Guthrie looks likely to win selection when Geelong begins its premiership defence against Fremantle.

"All you can do is put you best foot forward and hopefully try to impress the coach with the way you go about things," Guthrie said.

"I've been pretty consistent, but my main goal is to just play my role for the team."

Sunday, 29 January 2012
Geelong defender Cameron Guthrie says he is feeling fitter and stronger and aims to build on his two-game career in 2012.

I've put on about seven kilos since I got to the club, so hopefully I can mix it with the big boys now," he said.

"I think I've been doing tougher training this pre-season, but I'm coping better at the same time.

"Being in my second year at the club, my body is feeling fitter and stronger, so hopefully I can keep building on that in the next couple of years."

Friday, 25 March 2011
Cameron Guthrie makes his AFL debut for Geelong at the MCG with 13 disposals (5 kicks and 8 handballs), 2 marks and 2 tackles in a 1-point win over St Kilda.
